About Me
Mo - The Human Behind Stringfield Yarn Collective
My name is Maureen Sugrue, but everyone calls me Mo. Stringfield Yarn Collective is where you will find me behind the counter, on the step ladder or at the project tables excited to share my love of fiber arts with you. It’s been a twisty path, and sometimes a tangled journey to get here.
I grew up on a ranch in California, raising cattle mostly. We also had chickens, cats, and dogs and ended up being a home for all the wayward animals (and sometimes people). There were horses to ride and so many animals to surround myself with. My daughter grew up on the same land, and after 30 years of marriage, parenting, & family focus, I have embarked on the journey that brought me here, to Oregon and Stringfield.
Growing up on our ranch taught me the value of hard work and resilience. My time spent as a hairdresser taught me about personal creativity and how to listen. Years in the mortgage industry taught me about business, gave me flexibility and freedom to provide for my daughter…and finally taught me that I was ready to do something more creative with my days; something that called deeply to my heart. And so came this spark of an idea now called Stringfield Yarn Collective.
Creativity has always been essential in my life. I love photography, drawing, and painting with watercolors. I used to love making stained glass. I still enjoy painting rocks. But above all these wonderful passions, there is Yarn. Yarn is my heart medium. There’s something about the texture, the endless possibilities of color and fiber, and the way it connects people that, for me, makes it unlike any other art form.
Fiber arts have always been more than just a craft to me—they’re a way of building community, finding connection, and making a place feel like home. When I came to the Eugene-Springfield area, I found an incredible group of makers who welcomed me with open arms. They became part of the reason I put down roots here, and this shop is my way of giving back.
Looking ahead, I hope Stringfield Yarn Collective continues to grow as a welcoming, inclusive space where creativity thrives. I’m excited to bring in more local artists, offer new classes, and foster meaningful connections through the love of fiber arts. This shop is just the beginning of what I hope will be a long and beautiful journey—one that we can share, one stitch at a time.
